Common reasons for breast revision surgery
Breast revision is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures in the US, involving the removal and/or replacement of breast implants. In most cases, the procedure is used to change the implant size or type or to fix any aesthetic or physical health problem emanating from the original breast augmentation procedure. In a nutshell, breast revision surgery is used to restore the contour and aesthetic beauty of the breasts.
It is important to understand that if you have used implants to enhance your breasts, the results are not permanent. You will be required to undergo a breast revision surgery to either remove or replace the breast implants in the future, or to treat any complications associated with the implants. This is perfectly normal.
Common reasons for breast revision
To remove/replace implants: If you think your implants are beginning to feel too large or now causing physical discomfort, your surgeon will use the original incisions from the first surgery to remove/replace the implants.
To fix capsular contracture: Capsular contracture is a common complication that occurs when the scar tissue (capsule) that normally forms around the implant starts contracting and squeezing the implants. This can cause discomfort and pain, in addition to making your breasts look asymmetrical. During the revision surgery, the capsule will be removed to provide relief from the pain.
To fix double bubble: Double bubble is a condition that occurs as a result of implants shifting to the breast crinkle. This condition is more likely to occur in patients who have bigger than advised implants or if the implants have been placed incorrectly.
To fix implant rippling: Rippling occurs when the implants are visible through the skin and is more common in patients who have smaller breasts or are thinner/have thinner skin. If your implant has been placed above the breast muscle or if the implant is very large, you are more likely to suffer from implant rippling.
To fix implant rupture or leakage: If you have breast implants, they are likely to rupture or leak in the future. The risk increases as the age of the implant increases. Also, mishandling of the implants during surgery, overly filled implants, and surgical errors increase the risk of early breast implant rupture and/or leak.
To change implant size: This is for patients who find their implants too large or too small to suit their anatomy. The revision surgery will replace the implants with a more ideal size for the patient.
To replace saline implants with silicone implants: If saline implants fail to deliver the desired improvements, you may use breast revision surgery to replace them with silicone implants. More women now opt for silicone over saline due to recent innovations and developments in the material.
To treat implant malposition: If your surgeon has created implant pockets too far or too close to each other, your breasts may appear badly positioned. In order to fix this condition, the surgeon will reconstruct the implant pockets and contour the area by accessing them through the original incisions.
To correct nipple and areola elevation: If you think your nipples and areola need to be raised, your doctor may also recommend breast revision surgery.
Pros and cons of breast revision surgery
After a breast revision procedure, the shape, size and contour of your breasts will be restored and improved. If you underwent surgery to get rid of physical discomforts, you will experience drastic improvements.
However, the results of traditional breast revision surgery are temporary. Factors like aging, gravity, and weight fluctuations will naturally take a toll. To achieve permanent results, patients are recommended to opt for the wonder breast revision instead.
Candidacy for breast revision
In order to qualify for breast revision surgery, you must have at least one of the above reasons to justify your candidacy and qualifications for the procedure. Furthermore, you should be in good physical and mental health and have realistic expectations from the surgery. Your plastic surgeon will examine your breasts and overall health to determine your candidacy for the procedure.
Breast revision is one of the common plastic surgery procedures sought by women who have undergone breast augmentation. The abovementioned reasons are the most common, and while the results from a traditional breast revision are effective, they are not permanent. If you seek permanent results, consider opting for a wonder breast revision instead.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
