Hospitalization after breast lipofilling

Breast lipofilling is the only safe and effective method to get breast augmentation nowadays. While many advertisements would claim that pills, massages, and different types of creams can make your breasts bigger, the reality is that the only 100% natural method to increase the size of the breasts is offered by plastic surgery and it is the breast lipofilling procedure. As the name suggests, the procedure entails filling the breasts with fat to create more volume, improve the shape, and correct certain potential imperfections on the breasts. The procedure has been performed for quite some years now as it is safe, entails minimal risks, and provides good results.

When breast lipofilling is performed, the plastic surgeon will collect fat from areas where there is an excess of adipose tissue. This means that a mandatory condition to be eligible for breast lipofilling is to have a surplus of fat tissue localized somewhere in your body. In the absence of the fat to be collected, the procedure can’t be performed.

The fat cells are collected with through liposuction. Tumescent liposuction is often performed as it allows the collection of fat cells without significant damage to the cells. However, after liposuction, the fat cells collected are not all in perfect condition for the transfer. This means that the plastic surgeon will put the fat collected through a complex purification process. The blood, impurities and damaged fat cells are eliminated, and only the pure fat cells are used for transfer to the breasts.

The plastic surgeon will inject fat into the breasts in different areas and at different depths. Injecting too much fat in one place can cause asymmetries and also the fat to die. It can take up to three weeks or more for the fat to adjust to the new environment and develop a new blood network. When this happens, the fat will start behaving just like the other fat cells that were initially in the breasts.

Many patients wonder how long they need to stay in the hospital after breast lipofilling. The good news is that the hospitalization period after fat transfer is rather short. The procedure is often performed with the patient under general anesthetic, and afterwards, the patient is moved to a recovery room. In this room, the patient often stays for a few hours, until making a full recovery from the main effects of the general anesthesia. After this, the patient can be discharged and go home. The hospitalization period is short because there are very few complications that can occur and also because it is not as invasive as other plastic surgery procedures. Excessive bleeding would be one of the complications that would require a longer hospitalization period for the patient, but this happens in very rare cases.
