Many women are considering breast augmentation and if you are one of them, there is a need for you to know what the goals of breast surgery are. In this way, you will know why many women are hooked on the said surgical procedure. Aside from women, men can also undergo breast aesthetic surgery. This procedure is carried by both men and women because its goal is to reshape their breasts that are either too small or too big. It is also used to remove sagging skin and excessive mammary tissue in the chest area. Breast surgery among women is primarily performed to correct hypoplasia, hypertrophy or breast ptosis.
You may not know about this but there are three different types of breast cosmetic procedures for women. These are breast augmentation, reduction and lift. The breast augmentation surgery involves the insertion of implants into the breasts to give it a more voluminous appearance. It is done under general anesthesia and requires hospitalization for at least 24 hours. On the other hand, the breast reduction surgery is the intervention that reduces the breast volume to achieve a breast size that is in proportion to the woman’s morphology. Its duration depends on the amount of skin and mammary gland tissue that will be removed.
In this case, the patient will also be under general anesthesia and will require 24 hours of hospitalization. Conversely, a breast lift corrects breast ptosis which is the sagginess of the breasts. It is corrected by raising the breasts to a natural, elevated position on the chest area. Ptosis occurs due to some factors which include loss of skin elasticity. Skin elasticity is caused by aging, pregnancy and lactation, excessive weight loss or weight gain, and hormonal fluctuations.
You do not have to fear cosmetic surgical procedures because they are not painful. However, do not expect that you will not feel any pain because generally speaking, it is still a major surgery. This is why some degree of pain and discomfort will be felt by the patient. If you think you cannot handle the pain, the surgeon will prescribe pain medication.
